Glitterball Studios produces podcasts, focusing on LGBTQI+ content. They approached me to extend their existing brand and create a hub where listeners can visit and find out more about their shows.
The challenge was to translate their bright colourful brand into an online space without making it seem gaudy.
The client wanted the site to be an extension of their personality and wanted to incorporate “unexpected” elements, something that would make the user smile when they interacted with it.

Having such a colourful and bright brand to play with allowed plenty of room for exploration and experimentation. I began by trying to recreate the client’s style but quickly found that their style didn’t translate well into a functioning website. Instead, I retained the colours and used them as a frame for the client’s own art. This way, the site complements the client's style rather than trying to recreate it.
The client also wanted to implement a store in the future so I opted for a modular design, each section following design rules yet each uniquely distinct. This way each section can be added or removed without interrupting the main flow of the page.
Implementing the “unexpected” factor meant having different coloured hover states in the menu. This was brought over to the podcast selection module.
Using the carousel, each podcast displayed a different background, again using the same colour palette as the hover states.
Another key part was helping users navigate to a specific podcast page easily. So I included search functionality as well as tags so users could get to where they need to quickly.
Working with Jeremy on this project has been a very seamless and straightforward process. His care and attention to the needs of the project have been second to none, putting me very much at ease and allowing me to focus on other creative endeavours knowing my web presence was in safe hands.
